Basic Life Support & AED for Adults (Level 3)

Introduction

The qualification will provide learners with the knowledge and practical competence required to be able to recognise and treat adults who have become unresponsive and also may have suffered cardiac arrest. Learners will gain the skills and knowledge to respond quickly, calmly and confidently and provide life saving treatment.

Duration

​

A minimum of 2.5 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities.

Syllabus

​

A range of subjects are covered including: • What is first aid? • Responsibilities • Action in an emergency • Primary Survey • Recovery position • Resuscitation and the safe use of an AED.

Assessment and Marking

​​

The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail based on practical and oral assessment throughout the course, i.e. by observation and oral questioning,

Certification

​​

This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew their qualification after 3 years, delegates will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that, during the 3 year period, delegates attend annual refresher courses.

Numbers

​

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 14 years of age to qualify
